The Story Beneath The Story
In this part of the mini series, we revisit the Japanese fairy tale, The Man Who Did Not Wish To Die, by Yei Theodora Ozaki. It follows a man named Santaro who initially seeks perpetual life, which leads him to Jofuku. This raises the question of what it truly means to find contentment when the grand desire for endless existence is met with an unexpected challenge.
Our journey moves from the mythic realm of Centaro, whose perpetual life turns frustrating, to my own messy memory of being a student in Indore. By weaving these two seemingly disparate accounts together, we finally find a framework for understanding where true happiness actually lives.
