The Story Beneath The Story
The story we continue is a Celtic fairy tale, The Sea Maiden, from the collection *Celtic Folk and Fairy Tales*, selected and edited by Joseph Jacobs. The narrative describes a powerful mythological quest. It raises the central question of ultimate attachment, prompting the listener to wonder what compensation is worthy of the incredible power and help the sea maiden offers.
After completing the tale, we shift to my personal memory of visiting Niagara Falls. The journey, comparing mythic struggle with the sheer grandeur of nature, brings us to explore the concept of peak experiences. We conclude by defining transcendence, understanding how true self-actualization requires going beyond our immediate sense of self.
